Protocol gateways

Protocol gateways translate between different OT protocols, bridging the gap between legacy fieldbuses and modern industrial Ethernet.

Devices like MGates handle protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, IEC 61850, PROFIBUS and DNP3.

Areas of application

Legacy integration in existing facilities

When legacy field devices such as PLCs, drives or sensors only support serial bus communication, a protocol gateway can ensure that these devices can communicate with SCADA systems or IIoT platforms - without the need for equipment replacement.

Protocol conversion in complex systems

In systems with both fieldbus and Ethernet applications, gateways can ensure traffic segmentation and translation, for example. Modbus RTU → Modbus TCP, PROFIBUS → PROFINET or CANopen/J1939 → Modbus TCP.

Troubleshooting and traffic monitoring

Many gateways offer built-in tools such as traffic monitor, protocol diagnostics and status monitoring, simplifying troubleshooting and ensuring stable operation.

Benefits and advantages

Fast integration

Plug-and-play with web-based setup - no complex programming needed

Segmentation

Network traffic splitting improves security, stability and performance in OT architecture

Robust industrial design

Units come with DIN rail mounting, wide working ranges (typically -40°C to +75°C) and redundant power supply
