Energy meters
Industrial IT & IIoT / Energy meters
Energy meters are used to accurately record electricity consumption in everything from production and process plants to building monitoring and utility infrastructure.
Depending on the purpose, a distinction is made between MID-approved meters, required by statutory or commercial settlement (e.g. to customers or tenants), and non-MID-approved meters, typically used for internal energy monitoring, load analysis or process optimisation.
Areas of application
Used when consumption is the basis for billing or contractual agreements - e.g. subletting, distribution metering or settlement between companies. The requirement follows the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID) and the meters must be type-approved and verified.
Used when measurement is solely for technical purposes, e.g. energy mapping, benchmarking between departments, monitoring machine load or optimising energy consumption in operation and maintenance. Here accuracy is important, but not required by law.
