Why choose Thiim Relays ...

Thiim Relays – industrial relays for monitoring, protection and control

Industrial relays designed for critical applications

Thiim Relays develops and manufactures industrial relays for the monitoring, protection and control of electrical installations. Our solutions are used in the energy, industrial, infrastructure, marine, offshore and process plant sectors, where operational reliability and precision are crucial.

How does a relay work?

A relay monitors a electrical signal and triggers when a predefined threshold is exceeded.

Depending on the type of relay, it may trigger an alarm, interrupt a circuit or activate another function.

Typical parameters:

  • Voltage
  • Electricity
  • Frequency
  • Level of isolation
  • Phase sequence
  • Battery voltage

What is an industrial relay?

An industrial relay is an electrical component that monitors, protects or controls electrical circuits. Relays are used to detect faults, monitor voltage and current, and ensure stable operation in industrial plants.

Relays are used, amongst other things, for:

  • Phase monitoring
  • Earth fault monitoring
  • Battery monitoring
  • Engine protection
  • Voltage check
  • Frequency monitoring
  • Process control

What is a relay?

A relay is an electrical component that monitors or controls an electrical circuit.

Among the most commonly used types are earth fault relays, phase fault relays, voltage relays, current relays and battery monitoring systems.

Industrial relays are used for monitoring, protecting and controlling electrical installations.

The choice depends on the application, voltage, current range, environment and certification requirements.

An earth fault occurs when electrical current is inadvertently conducted to earth through, for example, damaged insulation, moisture or faulty components. Earth faults can lead to operational disruptions, damage to equipment and, in the worst case, personal injury.

A DC earth fault relay monitors the insulation level in DC systems and detects fault currents to earth. The relay enables early fault detection and helps prevent breakdowns in battery systems, UPS systems, power systems and other DC installations.

Cable wear and tear can be caused by vibrations, mechanical stress, moisture or ageing of the insulation. Earth fault monitoring and insulation testing can help detect incipient faults before they develop into serious operational problems or unplanned shutdowns.

An earth fault can lead to unwanted downtime, false alarms, damage to equipment and increased maintenance costs. In critical installations, even minor earth faults can develop into major faults if they are not detected and rectified in good time.

Continuous monitoring makes it possible to identify anomalies before they develop into critical faults. This increases the plant’s uptime, reduces the risk of breakdowns and contributes to safer and more stable operations.

The choice depends, amongst other things, on the type of installation, the voltage level, the requirements for alarm functions and whether the system is AC or DC-based. A correctly sized monitoring solution ensures rapid fault detection and effective protection of the installation.
