Energy meters
Industrial IT & IIoT / Energy meters
Energy meters are used for accurate recording of electricity consumption in everything from production and process plants to building monitoring and supply infrastructure.
Depending on the purpose, a distinction is made between MID-approved meters, which is required by law or for commercial billing purposes (e.g., to customers or tenants), and non-MID-approved meters, which is typically used for internal energy monitoring, load analysis, or process optimization.
Areas of application
Used when consumption forms the basis for invoicing or contractual agreements – e.g. for subletting, distribution metering, or settlement between companies. The requirement complies with the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (MID), and the meters must be type-approved and verified.
Used when the measurement is solely for technical purposes, e.g., energy mapping, benchmarking between departments, monitoring machine load, or optimizing energy consumption in operation and maintenance. Accuracy is important here, but not subject to legal requirements.
